Hey guys, I ride racehorses for a living and had one fall on concrete four days ago, In short I have a non displaced crack smack bang in the middle of my tibial plateau and two small cracks on the side of my tibia.. I have a specialist appointment next week to decide if I need surgery, Im guessing if the chip doesnt move I wont require surgery (fingers crossed), anyway Im currently at home on crutches, NWB but can bend my knee (not totally) and sometimes straighten it without pain.. just wondering what you all think I should expect. Doctors have said if all goes to plan I can FWB after 8 weeks, but im concerned as my job obviously requires alot of pressure on my knees.. any helpful ideas or insights are more than welcome, my job is my life, I really do love it and im just starting to freak a little 🙁

      Jo,

Because my surgery failed to fully elevate my depression fracture, I’ve been informed that the cartilage will sink into the depression and deteriorate my knee function.

I hope you fare much better.

Sorry only just seen this Eileen. I didn’t mean to step back onto it but it was a reflex reaction. They don’t want to operate and are leaving it depressed. I’m 6 weeks in now and latest scan it is still aligned and recovering well x

      Jo,

Please, whatever you do, do NOT put weight on it — it can displace. Are they going to do surgery or leave the bone and cartilage depressed?

Hi, I had a weird fall off my horse 4 weeks ago and also have a non displaced fracture which has left a large depression in tibia and a 6 inch crack. I have been told 12 weeks non weight bearing and I would guess I have similar movement to you. I have had to turn away my horses and my husband drives me up to see them. I have a CT scan Monday and have a list of questions to ask so I will update you more then. I thought mine was fine until yesterday I accidentally stepped back and balanced on my bad leg and the pain sent me through the roof which was thoroughly depressing.

      Are you in a brace?

      Jo x
